Inclement Weather Warning
South Carolina winters can be unpredictable, but temperatures are dropping this week. Many families and business owners suffer every year from damage due to burst pipes when freezing temperatures reach the Midlands. Read below for tips to prevent damage to your home or commercial property when temperatures drop below freezing.
- Let water drip from water faucets overnight
- Know where your water shut off valve is located
- Set the heat to a minimum of 55 Degrees
- Keep garage doors closed to prevent heat from escaping
- Be sure to review your insurance policies and leases to make sure your property and personal belongings are covered in the event of a loss
What to Do If You Have a LeakĀ
- Shut off your water valve immediately, if you cannot locate the shut off valve, call your local fire department and they can assist to prevent further damage
- Use buckets, towels, fans, and dehumidifiers to assist in clean up if a pipe should burst
- When safe to do so, check all pipes for damage in attics and crawl spaces
- If there is damage and you are responsible for repairs, call a licensed plumber and or a restoration company. If you are not responsible for plumbing repairs, per your lease agreement, contact your property manager or the property owner immediately
